Acknowledged as one of the Great White Way's natural wonders, Bernadette Peters is a performer of unparalleled versatility.
She first appeared on Broadway at the age of 11 in Most Happy Fella. She gained prominence at the age of 19 for her campy performance as Ruby, the 1930s-style chorus girl in the Off-Broadway musical parody Dames at Sea.
One of Broadway's brightest stars, she won the Tony Award for Best Actress for performances in Annie Get Your Gun (1999) and Song & Dance (1986). She was also nominated for The Goodbye Girl (1993), Sunday in the Park with George (1984), Mack and Mabel (1975) and On the Town (1972).
While Peters is best known for her work in the theatre, her career doesn't end at the footlights. She boasts an impressive list of television credits which include The Carol Burnett Show, PBS' Evening At Pops and an Emmy-nominated performance in The Muppet Show.
She has lit up the silver screen in 14 films throughout her career. She received a Golden Globe for her memorable performance in Pennies From Heaven (1982), costarring Steve Martin and Christopher Walken. Her additional film credits include The Longest Yard (1974), Silent Movie (1976), The Jerk (1979), Annie (1982), Slaves of New York (1989), Alice (1990), and Impromptu (1990). Peters was again nominated for a guest actress Emmy for her appearance on the TV show Ally McBeal in 2001.
