Born to English parents, Australian actor Hugh Jackman is the youngest of five children.
After receiving a degree in Communications and a major in journalism from the University of Technology Sydney, Jackman turned his attention to acting. He enrolled in training at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, and landed his first TV role on the Australian Broadcast Company drama “Corelli” at the age of 27.
After acting in several television shows, Jackman, an accomplished singer, pursued parts in various musicals: Jackman starred as Gaston in the Australian production of “Beauty and the Beast, Joe Gillis in the Australian production of ”Sunset Boulevard,“ and Curly in The Royal National Theater's ”Oklahoma!,“ for which he won an Olivier nomination.
Jackman's feature roles include Wolverine in ”X-Men“ and ”X-2,“ Leopold in ”Kate & Leopold,“ for which he received a Golden Globe nomination, and most recently, Roger in ”Standing Room Only.“ Jackman can currently be seen on Broadway in Peter Allen's musical biography, ”The Boy from Oz.“
