In the Jude Law episode of “Inside the Actors Studio,” we learn that he fell in love with acting at the early age of five, and started his dramatic training at twelve when he joined the National Youth Music Theater. Law recalls one of the less illustrious parts he played at the NYMT: in a production called “Bodywork” he played the part of 'Adrenaline,' and doubled in a role as 'Hair.'
From this humble start, Law was able to launch himself into a series of theatrical parts that eventually earned him an Olivier nomination, recognizing London's best theater performances.
After years of work in theater both in London and New York, Law got his first part in a major motion picture playing a wheelchair bound paraplegic in “Gattaca.” He shares with the audience his ardent effort to stay in character by remaining in his wheelchair during the entire shoot, and never once walking on the set.
Law also reflects on the process he has used to explore various other characters. He talks about reading Kierkegaard for his role in “eXistenZ,” and how he jokingly insisted that he had to have the best food and wine while filming “The Talented Mr. Ripley” in order to prepare himself for the role of Dickie Greenleaf.
Law also livens things up by participating in an Actors Studio tradition and showing off one of his best dance steps.
